This week we are studying the 4th question in the
Shorter Westminister Catechism.
What is God?
God is a spirit, infinite, eternal, and unchangeable, in his being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth.
John 4:24 says, God is a spirit; and they that worship him, must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Spirit: a spirit is an immaterial substance, without flesh or bones, or bodily parts.
What is infinite? God is infinite, or without bounds, in regard of his being or perfection; and therefore is incomprehensible. God is infinite, and without measure and bounds, in regard of place; and therefore he is everywhere present.
Can any hide himself in secret places, that I shall not see him? saith the Lord, Do I fill heaven and earth? Jer. 23:24
And yet neither the earth, nor the heavens, nor the heaven of heavens, is able to contain him. 1 Kings 8:26
There is much more to be said of this question, including His goodness, power, unchangeableness...Tell that to the dispensationalists. We are studying this after church each week, and memorizing each question and answer. During the week, we go through the Scripture proofs for each statement made in the answer.
This has been a great blessing to us!
